Clean Water Celebration

What if we could blend virtual events, remote education, and video games, all in application? The studio I worked with in collaboration with the Sun Foundation did just that.

The virtual Clean Water Celebration had been one of the most ambitious projects we had been proposed since the inception of Interactiva in early 2020. The Sun Foundation was looking for the best next thing to represent their in-person fair. Featuring several activities, in-game videos, and a third-person character that had to be easy enough to be handled by kids of all age groups in elementary school.

I managed a team of seven people, among 3D Artists, and software engineers, and served as the point of contact for designing the proposal and design specifications while analyzing the feasibility and designing the system requirements and features. I also developed the frameworks for Interactiva, including C# systems that handled the UI, the mini-games, the input, the character, and additional interactions.

From the Ground Up
We developed the Clean Water Celebration from the ground up, modeling the entire riverfront, the 3D models required for the activities, and texturing everything in the scene. The experience was cross platform built for web and mobile, and featured a realistic environment of the Peoria Riverfront modeled with PBR graphics.
Interactiva Engine
We developed the base mechanics coupled with our Interactiva Engine–this in-house toolset coupled dynamically scaling graphics to achieve peak performance on any device, while providing a modular framework to develop the in-game interactions.
Recycled Robin
The featured character was designed in line with the theme for the event: recycling and environmental conservation. Recycled Robin was the name we gave to the friendly looking robot that served as a symbol that the environment and technology can go hand in hand.
